The IRGC issued a statement on Thursday, one day after the US military formally completed the withdrawal of its troops from Iraq, ending a 23-year occupation of the Arab country that led to hundreds of thousands of civilian deaths.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n <\/p>\r\n\r\n The IRGC said that the US, which has long relied on the language of force, is now being compelled to withdraw from a country it occupied for more than two decades.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n <\/p>\r\n\r\n It also described the expulsion of American forces as a testament to Iraq’s steadfast determination in confronting the terrorist, war-mongering US regime and its foolish rulers at the White House.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n <\/p>\r\n\r\n “Without a doubt, the expulsion of the United States from Iraq marks the beginning of their withdrawal from West Asia in its entirety and from the broader Muslim world,” it added.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n <\/p>\r\n\r\n “This major victory is the result of Iraq’s national resolve, the efforts of resistance movements, popular support, and effective measures taken by the Iraqi government.”<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n <\/p>\r\n\r\n Meanwhile, the elite military force extended congratulations to the Iraqi people, the Islamic Resistance, and the fighters of the Muslim world, on their historic victory, which was the result of the nation’s unwavering commitment to independence.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n <\/p>\r\n\r\n Through historic resistance, it emphasized, the Iraqis demonstrated that national will is the most powerful weapon against the ambitions of hegemonic powers.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n <\/p>\r\n\r\n “The US is gone—not through negotiations, not as a concession, but through the determination of a people who stood their ground, the blood of those who gave their lives, and a resistance whose resolve was never broken. Today, a proud and free Iraq stands amid the ruins of two decades of occupation, witnessing the dawn of its independence,” it said.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n <\/p>\r\n\r\n Additionally, the IRGC said the expulsion of US forces marks the first step toward avenging the blood of Iraq’s martyrs, particularly Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, the deputy commander of Iraq's Popular Mobilization Units (PMU), who was assassinated alongside Iran’s top anti-terror commander Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani, in a US strike in Baghdad in 2020.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n <\/p>\r\n\r\n “The US must leave the region and allow the people of the region themselves to manage their own security. Two decades of occupation demonstrated that the US presence did not bring security; rather, it became a source of insecurity, terrorism, and instability in West Asia,” it asserted.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n <\/p>\r\n\r\n “After twenty years of military intervention, with nearly 5,000 US deaths by its own account—not the actual figure—and $4 trillion in costs, the US was expelled from Iraq amid widespread public resentment and hostility.
