Chomsky: US broke efforts to establish Palestine
American expert in politics, Noam Chomsky, said the US government has been trying to nullify all international efforts aimed at establishing a Palestinian country.
In an interview with Al-Jazeera TV network, Chomsky described the occupation of Palestine as a catastrophe saying it was a big project to destroy a whole nation.
"I will never celebrate such events," he added, in reference to fabrication of 'Israel'.
Asked about his memoirs of 1948 when 'Israel' was established, he said "At that time I was one of the active members of the Zionism movement and leader of Zionism youth but our branch opposed establishment of a Jewish state."
"The approach now is considered as an anti-Zionism approach but at that time it was part of the Zionism movement," he added.
"When Israel was established," he said, "I and the groups to which I was affiliated felt that a big mistake had happened which would bear unfortunate results.
"As an American Jew," Chomsky stressed on the necessity of recognizing the Palestinian rights.
Reffering to the enhancement of America-Israel relations in 1967 and the American economic supports to the Israeli regime, he said America was at the head of countries which had been against the establishment of a Palestinian country and always tried to break the international consensus in that regard.
