Hamas: Israel evades obligations, continues Gaza ceasefire violations
Hamas spokesperson Hazem Qassem accused Zionist regime of systematically violating the Gaza ceasefire agreement, saying the violations have killed around 1,500 Palestinians and wounded nearly 5,000 others.
Qassem said Zionist regime continues its killings and starvation policies while restricting the entry of humanitarian aid and blocking materials needed for Gaza’s reconstruction.
He accused Zionist regime of evading its obligations under the ceasefire agreement and expanding its control over territory in the Gaza Strip, while continuing to close crossings and restrict Palestinians’ movement. He also criticized mediators for failing to compel Israel to implement the agreement and pointed to what he described as a lack of effective US pressure.
Qassem warned that Gaza is facing an “open massacre” amid continued Israeli attacks, the destruction of homes and the displacement of Palestinians. He rejected Zionist regime’s claims that he said were being used to justify escalating attacks and resuming broader military operations.
He reiterated that the Palestinian side remains committed to the terms of the ceasefire agreement and called on the parties involved to fulfill their responsibilities by pressuring Israel to halt its violations, implement the agreement and allow humanitarian aid into Gaza.
Turning to internal Palestinian politics, Qassem said elections are a fundamental right of the Palestinian people and a national obligation that must not be denied or subjected to political calculations.
He rejected the continued obstruction of elections and the monopolization of Palestinian decision-making, saying that these practices have eroded the legitimacy of Palestinian institutions.
Qassem called for a serious and comprehensive national dialogue aimed at ending the Palestinian division, restoring national unity and establishing clear guarantees for holding elections without further delays or using the electoral process to prolong the political crisis.
