9,350 Palestinians held in Israeli prisons amid systematic escalation of torture and medical neglect
According to Asra Media Office report, approximately 9,350 Palestinian captives are currently held in Zionist regime’s prisons, including 3,176 administrative detainees, around 90 female prisoners, and 350 children.
A report released by the Asra Media Office on the conditions of Palestinian captives and the latest developments through the end of September 2026 has revealed a continued escalation of Zionist regime’s measures against Palestinian detainees, including expanded arrest campaigns, intensified repression and abuse, and harsh detention conditions, alongside ongoing medical neglect, torture, and deprivation of basic rights.
According to the report, approximately 9,350 Palestinian captives are currently held in Zionist regime’s prisons, including 3,176 administrative detainees, around 90 female prisoners, and 350 children. The total also includes 25 long-serving prisoners, seven Palestinian lawmakers, and 15 prisoners from the Gaza Strip serving life sentences.
The Asra Office reported that the number of arrests in the occupied West Bank since the beginning of Zionist regime’s genocidal war on Gaza has exceeded 25,000, amid continued Israeli raids, mass arrests, field interrogations, and assaults against Palestinian civilians.
The report also noted that approximately 350 children are among those detained, while the number of imprisoned journalists has reached around 38, including nine from Gaza. Five Palestinian journalists have died inside Zionist regime’s prisons.
The report further documented the deaths of 92 Palestinian prisoners in Zionist regime’s custody since October 7, 2023, including 13 prisoners serving life sentences.
Six prisoners have died in Zionist regime’s prisons since the beginning of 2026, bringing the total number of Palestinian prisoners who have died in Israeli custody since 1967 to approximately 805, according to the report.
Torture, medical neglect, and harsh detention conditions
The Asra Media Office reported that Palestinian prisoners continue to face physical assaults, beatings, abuse, humiliating searches, and retaliatory measures, along with severe restrictions on their daily lives inside detention facilities.
The report highlighted the spread of skin diseases, particularly scabies, amid detention conditions characterized by poor hygiene, inadequate ventilation, and shortages of clothing and personal hygiene supplies.
These conditions have been compounded by ongoing medical neglect and the denial of necessary treatment and medical examinations to sick prisoners.
According to the report, these policies have further deteriorated prisoners’ health, particularly among those suffering from chronic illnesses or serious injuries, as treatment is delayed and adequate medical care remains unavailable.
Escalating repression inside Zionist regime’s prisons
The report documented an escalation of repressive measures inside Zionist regime’s prisons throughout September, including raids on prison sections, physical assaults, abuse of detainees, restrictions on basic necessities, and confiscation of personal belongings.
At Damon Prison, the report highlighted deteriorating health and living conditions among Palestinian female prisoners, who continue to face shortages of medical treatment and healthcare.
In some cases, female prisoners have been prevented from cleaning their sections. The report also documented raids by Israeli prison suppression units, during which women were assaulted, restrained, and deprived of their personal belongings.
At Ganot Prison, the report documented assaults against Palestinian prisoners from Gaza amid severe shortages of food, clothing, and hygiene supplies.
Prisoners have also faced restrictions on movement and strict limitations on their daily activities, while continuing to suffer from malnutrition and medical neglect.
At Ramla Prison, the report recorded repeated raids on the Rakevet section, accompanied by repressive measures, abuse, and physical assaults against prisoners, as their health and living conditions continued to deteriorate.
Targeting leaders of the Palestinian Captive Movement
The Asra Media Office also reported the continued targeting of leaders of the Palestinian Captive Movement through solitary confinement, repeated transfers, starvation, and deprivation of basic rights.
According to the report, these measures are intended to tighten restrictions on prisoners and weaken their ability to organize their daily lives inside Israeli detention facilities.
The report concluded that the situation of Palestinian prisoners throughout 2026 reflects a comprehensive escalation of Israeli policies involving arrests, torture, medical neglect, starvation, isolation, and the systematic denial of fundamental rights.
It further warned that Palestinian children, women, journalists, and leaders of the Captive Movement remain among those subjected to these measures, amid the continued deterioration of detention conditions across Israeli prisons.
