Israel’s terrorism, unprecedented atrocities have dealt most devastating blows to UN’s credibility: Tehran

In a statement on Saturday ahead of the annual session of the United Nations General Assembly, the Ministry expressed deep concern and condemnation over the continued Israeli crimes against the Palestinian people, particularly genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza and the occupied West Bank.

The ministry said the international community has a responsibility to take serious and decisive action to halt the genocide of Palestinians.

“Occupation, terrorism, lawlessness and the unprecedented crimes of the Zionist regime in occupied Palestine, as well as its aggression and crimes against countries in the region over the past eight decades, have undoubtedly dealt the most severe blows to the credibility and standing of the United Nations and international law,” the statement said.

The ministry also strongly condemned the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s “shameless insult” against Al-Aqsa Mosque and the desecration of the Buraq Wall.

It said the Israeli regime, with comprehensive military, financial, and political-media support from the United States and some countries that claim to uphold human rights, has committed one of the largest genocides in modern history in Gaza over the past three years.

The statement further slammed Israel for resorting to systematic and widespread killings and torture of Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza in pursuit of an “evil plan” to “erase Palestine through colonialism.”

The Foreign Ministry said the Israeli abduction of Palestinian women and children, which has exceeded 10,000, and their torture in prisons resulting in the deaths of dozens and the amputation and disability of hundreds, constitute war crimes and crimes against humanity.

“The fact that, on average, at least three Palestinian prisoners are martyred under torture every month is not only evidence of the apartheid and colonial nature of the Zionist regime, but also demonstrates the hypocrisy and moral decay of the regime’s supporters, who remain indifferent to the occupying regime’s grave violations of human rights and international humanitarian law,” the ministry said.

Iran, according to the statement, “strongly condemned the crimes committed by the Zionist regime in Gaza and the West Bank, stressing that the immunity granted to the regime by the United States, including through the intimidation and sanctioning of judges of international courts as well as activists and human rights reporters advocating for the Palestinian people, must in no way obstruct the pursuit of justice and freedom for Palestine or efforts to bring Israeli perpetrators to trial and punish them.”

The ministry added that Israel’s record as one of the leading violators of UN resolutions, coupled with the extensive use of Security Council vetoes to prevent action against Israeli violations and crimes, “speaks for itself” regarding the regime’s role in eroding the credibility and standing of the United Nations.

“Now that the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly has rightly been devoted to the issue of ‘restoring trust’ in the organization, it is the duty of every responsible state to place support for the rights of the Palestinian people, particularly their right to self-determination, and efforts to liberate them from 80 years of occupation, apartheid and colonialism, at the forefront of its international legal obligations and moral and humanitarian responsibilities,” the ministry added.

It stressed that achieving this goal requires immediate action to stop the genocide, prevent the further expansion of occupation and the seizure of Palestinian land, deliver humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza, and hold perpetrators accountable and bring them to justice.
