Hamas calls on mediators to compel Israel to fulfill commitments and begin second phase
The Hamas Movement on Sunday called on mediators and the Peace Council to assume their responsibilities and compel the Israeli occupation to fully implement its commitments under the first phase of the ceasefire agreement, end its violations, halt killings and incursions, approve the roadmap for the second phase of US President Donald Trump’s plan, and begin setting a timetable for its implementation.
The call came during a meeting between a senior Hamas delegation, headed by the Movement’s leader Khalil al-Hayya, and the mediators and guarantors of the Gaza ceasefire agreement, under Egyptian auspices.
The meeting addressed several key issues related to the ceasefire agreement and its implementation. The Hamas delegation reaffirmed the Movement’s approval of the roadmap for the second phase of President Trump’s plan, presented by Peace Council coordinator Nikolay Mladenov and the mediators.
Hamas said its approval of the roadmap was based on the interests of the Palestinian people and its commitment to achieving a permanent ceasefire, the full withdrawal of Zionist regime’s occupation forces from the Gaza Strip, the provision of urgent and sustained humanitarian relief, the start of the administrative committee’s work, reconstruction, and the implementation of the remaining agreed obligations.
Hamas also reaffirmed its and the resistance’s commitment to implementing the first phase of the ceasefire agreement reached in Sharm el-Sheikh, beginning with the exchange of prisoners and bodies and the cessation of military operations.
The Movement held the Zionist regime’s occupation responsible for failing to implement the first phase of the agreement, pointing to its continued military escalation on the ground, the deepening humanitarian catastrophe in the Gaza Strip, and its explicit rejection of the roadmap.
