Iran condemns US naval blockade as ‘act of war’
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi denounced the US’ naval blockade of Iran’s ports as an act of war and a breach of the ceasefire, warning that targeting commercial vessels and detaining their crews constitutes an even more serious violation.
In a message published on his X account on Tuesday, Araqchi criticized Washington’s actions against Iranian trade routes, stressing that Tehran is fully capable of countering such restrictions, safeguarding its national interests, and standing firm against coercive measures.
“Blockading Iranian ports is an act of war and thus a violation of the ceasefire. Striking a commercial vessel and taking its crew hostage is an even greater violation,” the Iranian foreign minister said.
“Iran knows how to neutralize restrictions, how to defend its interests, and how to resist bullying,” he added.
In a statement released earlier, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran strongly condemned a recent US attack on the Iranian commercial vessel Touska in the Sea of Oman, describing it as piracy and a terrorist act accompanied by the intimidation of its crew and their families.
