US must decide whether it can win Iran’s trust: Parliament speaker

Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf says the United States must now decide whether it is capable of earning Iran’s trust following the latest round of negotiations held in Islamabad.

In a post on X on Sunday, Ghalibaf, who led Iran’s delegation, said the talks failed to produce results because the US side was unable to convince Iranian negotiators of its reliability.

“My colleagues in the Iranian delegation of Minab 168 offered forward-looking initiatives, but the other side ultimately could not gain the trust of the Iranian delegation in this round of negotiations,” he wrote.

He added, “The United States understood our logic and principles, and now it is time for it to decide whether it can win our trust or not.”

Ghalibaf emphasized that Iran had entered the talks with goodwill but remained cautious due to past experiences.

“Before the negotiations, I stressed that we have the necessary goodwill and determination, but due to the experiences of the previous two wars, we do not trust the other side,” he said.

He further underlined that Iran views “diplomacy of strength” as a parallel path alongside military resistance to secure national rights, adding that efforts to consolidate the achievements of “forty days of national defense” would continue.

Ghalibaf also thanked Pakistan for facilitating the negotiations and expressed appreciation for public support in Iran, concluding with praise for the negotiating team’s efforts during the “intensive 21-hour talks.”

Top officials of Iran and the United States arrived in Islamabad on Saturday to discuss a permanent end to the US-Israeli war of aggression against the Islamic Republic, days after Tehran and Washington reached a two-week ceasefire. The talks ended without a deal.
