World reacts positively to ceasefire after 40-day US-Israeli war on Iran
Reactions from countries and leaders around the world keep pouring in following the announcement of a ceasefire agreement between Iran and the United States, mediated by Pakistan, after 40 days of unprovoked US-Israeli war on the Islamic Republic.
The two-week ceasefire, which includes Washington's acceptance of Tehran's 10-point proposals, received widespread support after US President Donald Trump announced to step back from the war late Tuesday local time in a statement, with Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) declaring the victory over aggressors.
Countries in Asia and Oceanic region, including ASEAN member countries, in the past hours, expressed their optimism for this diplomatic agreement and emphasized the need for continued negotiations to achieve sustainable peace.
Malaysia
The Malaysian Foreign Ministry, in a statement, described the ceasefire as a crucial step towards reducing tensions and restoring peace and stability in the West Asian region, calling on all parties to respect the terms of the truce and refrain from any provocative actions that could endanger global energy security.
Australia
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese described the agreement as a "positive news" but criticized Trump's threats and deemed the use of such language as "inappropriate and alarming."
New Zealand
Foreign Minister Winston Peters welcomed the Iran-US ceasefire but emphasized that a significant and noteworthy task remains in the coming days to ensure a sustainable peace. He also expressed gratitude for the mediation efforts of Pakistan, Turkey, and Egypt.
European Union
The European Union's Foreign Policy Chief Kaja Kallas hailed the ceasefire between Iran and the United States, stating that the 27-nation bloc is ready to support the diplomatic path.
She said the agreement provided a much-needed opportunity to reduce threats, resume shipping, and create space for diplomacy to achieve a sustainable deal.
African Union
African Union Commission President Mohamed Ali Youssouf, while welcoming the Iran-US ceasefire, called for continued talks to establish sustainable peace. He described it as a significant step reflecting a shared commitment to de-escalation.
Youssouf also expressed appreciation for the constructive roles played by mediating countries, including Pakistan, Oman, Turkey, and Egypt, whose diplomatic efforts, he said contributed to this outcome.
France
French President Emanuel Macron described the event as a "very good" saying the agreement should also "fully" include Lebanon and that the ceasefire must be fully respected in the coming days and weeks.
He was quoted, in a statement, from the Élysée Palace as saying that he held a meeting with high-ranking defense and officials to discuss "the situation in Iran and the Middle East."
Germany
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz welcomed the ceasefire agreement between Iran and the United States, stating that the goal now should be to negotiate a sustainable peace, aimed at protecting Iranian civilians and regional security.
He also thanked Pakistan for its mediation and said that Berlin remained in close contact with its partners on the matter.
Earlier, German Foreign Minister Johan Wadenful took to his X network and wrote: Finally, good news in politics! I welcome the decision of the parties involved to agree on a ceasefire. Berlin will fully support the diplomatic path.
Japan
The Japanese government reacted positively to the establishment of a two-week ceasefire between Iran and the United States, with a spokesperson describing it as a "positive step."
Stating that Tokyo expects a final agreement to be reached soon through diplomatic efforts, he said Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi had been in touch with Iranian officials to resolve the energy crisis Japan is facing.
Egypt
The Egyptian government, while welcoming a two-week ceasefire between Tehran and Washington, described the move as a positive and significant step towards the much-needed calm in the region.
Egypt stated that it had been calling for constructive talks to resolve conflicts peacefully and refrain from the use of force, leading to a reduction in tensions, an end to the war, and ultimately, regional and international security and stability.
Oman
The Foreign Ministry of Oman called for efforts to achieve a permanent end to the war and lasting peace in the region.
In a statement, the ministry noted that efforts to find a solution guaranteeing the root cause of the crisis and a permanent stop to the war and hostile acts in the region.
Britain
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer welcomed the Iran-US ceasefire on his X account, saying the agreement will bring a moment of calm to the region and the world.
Starmer, who is traveling to West Asia to meet British soldiers stationed in the region on Wednesday, said efforts should be made to preserve and support this ceasefire, turn it into a sustainable agreement.
Ukraine
Ukraine that had been a vocal supporter of US President Donald Trump and his warmongering, also welcomed the ceasefire between Iran and the United States
In a post on his X account, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Yermak wrote that Kyiv welcomes the agreement and Pakistan's mediation efforts.
Spain
Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares, welcoming the Iran-US ceasefire agreement emphasized that mankind was close to a catastrophe, however, achieving a sustainable peace was still possible.
Calling Israel's continued attacks on Lebanon unacceptable, Albares said the ceasefire is a necessary step, but it is not final. He also criticized the recent threats of US President Donald Trump about "the end of civilization" against Iran, saying such an action could have "an unimaginable intensification" for humanity.
Indonesia
The Indonesian Foreign Ministry, while welcoming the ceasefire, emphasized the need for mutual respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of countries, and also called for an investigation into the killing of its peacekeeping forces in Lebanon during an Israeli attack.
In a statement, the ministry stated that Jakarta urges both sides to respect each other's "sovereignty, and territorial integrity."
National Wisdom Movement of Iraq
The leader of Iraq's National Wisdom Movement called for serious and authentic negotiations between Tehran and Washington following a ceasefire agreement.
Ammar Hakim said he welcome the ceasefire in the war against the Islamic Republic and stress the need to respect the sovereignty of countries and prevent the repetition of what happened to the people of the region, including Iraq.
Tajikistan
The Foreign Ministry of Tajikistan, in a statement, welcomed the ceasefire agreement between Iran and the United States and expressed hope that the planned negotiations between the parties involved, would lead to a sustainable and comprehensive peace in West Asia.
The ministry warned that there was no military solution to this conflict, and its continuation would only further complicate the situation and cause serious harm to all countries in the region.
India
The Indian government has welcomed the ceasefire between Iran and the United States, emphasizing the need for a sustainable peace in the West Asia region.
The Ministry of External Affairs wrote on its X account that India had often called for de-escalation, dialogue, and diplomacy, which are essential to ending this conflict, which has so far inflicted widespread suffering upon the people.
