Canadian writer told qodsna:
Iran's revolution ended US-Israeli control of Iran in 1979
Eric Walberg told qodsna that Iran was the only country to break with imperialism via an Islamic revolution and Iran's revolution held fast to its efforts to defeat Israel and liberate Palestine.
Tehran, Qodsna – Canadian writer, senior journalist and political expert Eric Walberg in an exclusive interview with the Qods News Agency talked about the impact of Imam Khomeini’s Islamic Revolution of Iran on the Palestinian issue and the formation of Islamic resistance movements and US and Zionist regime illegally attacks against Iran.
The interview comes as follows:
Qodsna: The anniversary of the victory of the Islamic Revolution in Iran is coming up. What is the impact of Imam Khomeini’s Islamic Revolution of Iran on the Palestinian issue and the formation of Islamic resistance movements?
Eric Walberg: Communist revolutions failed (Soviet Union), or were weakened to the point of collapse and corrupted by materialism. This means that they have been unable to address the great battle of today, the liberation of Palestine. Iran's revolution held fast to its efforts to defeat Israel and liberate Palestine. Ayatollah Khomeini's first action as head of the revolution was to break relations with Israel and give the former embassy to Palestine.
Iran vowed to fight this, the great battle in today's world. Iran has allied with Ansar Allah in Yemen, Hezbollah in Lebanon and all Palestinian resistance movements to this end. Defeating Israel means defeating US-Israel, liberating the world from the Zionist scourge. Thus all foes of imperialism, including ex-communist countries, have been pushed by their people to join this battle, even as US-Israel uses all its resources to undermine them.
Qodsna: The United States and the Zionist regime illegally attacked Iran in June of this year and are trying to overthrow the Islamic Republic of Iran, but by the grace of God, they have not succeeded after 47 years. What has been the reason for this amount of hostility from the United States and the Zionist regime towards the Islamic Republic over the past 47 years?
Eric Walberg: The Islam Revolution ended US-Israeli control of Iran in 1979. Iran has been the only Muslim majority country besides Turkey that was never fully occupied by the imperialist powers. Turkey joined NATO when it was founded in 1948 and was allowed to develop economically under US-Israeli control, as with other former US enemies such as West Germany, Japan and South Korea, as part of a geopolitical strategy for keeping them within the imperialist West's orbit while curbing the advance of communism. Afghanistan was a weak, inaccessible backwater and was left alone. When the Soviet Union collapsed, the quasi-independent countries were ‘cut down to size’ by the US and forced to kowtow to Israel, the US counterpart in the Middle East.
Countries which broke from imperialism, such as Russia, China, North Korea, Cuba, Vietnam, and later Venezuela and Nicaragua, were able to pursue their own independent development models, in the face of the US, which has killed millions of their civilians and does its best to destroy these countries or at least make them subservient.
Iran was the only country to break with imperialism via an Islamic revolution until Afghanistan's Taliban kicked out the Americans in 2023, and both have faced even greater efforts by US-Israel to destroy them, as Islam is a much greater threat to imperialism than secular movements such as communism. Islam is based on a higher truth than materialism, uniting people across all political and economic lines. To allow Islam to flourish is a direct threat to the imperialists, who are now using all their resources to fight Islam, the only remaining world movement against imperialism.
Qodsna: Do you condemn the attacks by the US and the Zionist regime on Iran? How do you assess the future of the Islamic Revolution in Iran?
Eric Walberg: The deceitful attack by US-Israel in June 2025, even as Trump pretended to negotiate with Iran, was just the latest outrage against Iran. Instead of defeating Iran and returning Iran to the US-Israeli camp, Iran's missiles hit many vital targets in Israel, forcing it to admit defeat and call for a truce. Unchastened, Israel fomented riots in Iran afterwards, hoping for an anti-Islamic counterrevolution. The struggle continues, Trump now offering a truce if Iran dismantles its defenses against Israel. The obscene caricature of world politics continues.
Nations around the world have joined in the battle to liberate Palestine, but the forces are weak. Already US-Israel has been able to invade Venezuela, Iran's closest ally, with the intent of forcing it to become a lackey of imperialism. It's not yet clear what will be the result of this invasion. The relentless threats against Cuba, North Korea, China, Vietnam and Nicaragua continue unabated. Iran has faced invasion, subversion, and economic sanctions (really just another form of invasion), suffering hundreds of thousands of deaths.
Foes of imperialism, Russia and China, have provided military help against US-Israel, as Iran is effectively fighting their battles for them. Despite vile propaganda against Islam and Iran, many people in the West are not fooled and do not support US-Israeli efforts to destroy Iran. Imperialism will never rest faced by principled opponents like Iran. Islam cannot be destroyed. It defeated the Crusaders and liberated Jerusalem in the 12th c, protected Europe against the scourge of the Mongols in the13-14th cc. We are still fighting against the latest world scourge, the imperialists of the 16th--21st cc. The forces of evil cannot prevail against the Truth.
