Legal groups seek arrest of Israeli general traveling with president Herzog

Australian and Palestinian legal groups are pressing authorities to arrest retired Israeli general Doron Almog over war crimes committed in the Gaza Strip, citing his role in large-scale home demolitions and deadly attacks on Palestinian civilians during Israel’s military operations in the early 2000s.

The groups argue that under Almog’s command, Israeli occupation forces carried out grave breaches of the Geneva Conventions, including the destruction of dozens of Palestinian homes and attacks that killed civilians, many of them children.

The legal submission also points to Almog’s later role within the Jewish Agency for Israel, for his involvement in policies facilitating the transfer of Israeli settlers into the occupied West Bank, a practice prohibited under international law.
