Iraqi premier warns of regional instability amid rising tensions
Iraq’s Prime Minister Muhammad Shia al-Sudani has condemned the ongoing violence in Gaza and Lebanon, continuous attacks in Syria, and threats against Iran, calling them a grave concern for regional stability.
In a statement on World Quran Day, al-Sudani emphasized that Islamic and Arab nations face existential threats from external plots aimed at undermining their identity and sovereignty.
He stressed that regional challenges demand unity, cohesion, and an end to sectarian provocations.
Earlier, Sabah al-Numan, spokesperson for Iraq’s Joint Forces Command, reaffirmed Baghdad’s firm stance, saying that Iraq will not allow its territory, airspace, or waters to be used for any military action against any country.
He underscored Baghdad’s policy of respecting national sovereignty and non-interference in internal affairs of other countries, affirming that Iraq will not become a platform for threats to regional security.
The communication office of the Shia Coordination Framework also issued a statement, rejecting any use of Iraqi soil to target neighboring countries, especially Iran.
It called for diplomatic and political solutions to resolve crises, emphasizing that the region can no longer afford new military conflicts, especially amid economic challenges and falling oil prices, which would deepen suffering and threaten regional stability.
