Iran calls for regional action to preserve Yemen’s unity, territorial integrity
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has expressed deep concern over escalating tensions in southern and eastern Yemen, calling on all regional nations to work toward preserving the unity and territorial integrity of the Arab country.
Araghchi made the remarks in a telephone conversation with Bahraini Foreign Minister Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani to discuss bilateral ties and the latest regional developments.
During the call, the Iranian minister said the only viable solution to the crisis in Yemen is through comprehensive dialogue among all Yemeni groups.
Araghchi said the Islamic Republic of Iran views the path to resolving the Yemeni crisis solely through inclusive negotiations that involve all internal factions.
The Bahraini foreign minister echoed the necessity of maintaining peace and stability in Yemen and the broader region.
Both ministers expressed hope that ongoing diplomatic efforts would lead to a resolution of current issues, reinforcing Yemeni unity and consolidating regional stability.
Separately, Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei addressed reporters regarding the security situation in Yemen, stating that Tehran is closely monitoring these developments. He urged all involved parties to exercise restraint.
Baghaei called on all stakeholders to prioritize the interests of the Yemeni people and the security considerations of the region, resolving current issues through peaceful discourse.
"The Islamic Republic of Iran considers any action that paves the way for increased instability in Yemen or insecurity in the region to be unacceptable.”
He highlighted the need for collective attention from regional countries toward protecting Yemen’s territorial sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The spokesperson outlined Tehran’s official stance on a permanent resolution, underscoring three key pillars: initiation of comprehensive dialogue, full implementation of the established roadmap, and formation of an inclusive government within the framework of a unified and integrated Yemen.
Yemen has been the scene of a sweeping offensive by Abu Dhabi-backed separatists, with forces from the Southern Transitional Council (STC) marching across resource-rich Hadramawt and Mahra provinces over the past few weeks.
The advance has raised the specter of the return of South Yemen, a separate state from 1967 to 1990.
On Tuesday, the UAE said it was pulling its remaining forces out of Yemen, following a Saudi demand to withdraw within 24 hours as tensions escalated over a sweeping offensive by the Abu Dhabi-backed separatists.
On the same day, Saudi warplanes struck an Emirati shipment at Mukalla port, saying it was carrying weapons for the separatists, a claim the UAE denied.
