Martyrdom of prisoner Sakhr Zaoul in Israel’s Ofer prison

The Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs and the Palestinian Prisoner Society announced on Sunday the martyrdom of prisoner Sakhr Ahmad Khalil Zaoul, 26, from the town of Husan in Bethlehem Governorate, in Israeli occupation prisons.

The Commission explained that the notification of his death was received through the General Authority of Civil Affairs, without the occupation authorities providing any additional details regarding the circumstances of his death or its causes, amid the ongoing policy of opacity they pursue toward the issue of Palestinian prisoners.

It noted that the martyred prisoner had been held under administrative detention since June 11, 2025, and was detained in Ofer Prison.

Zaoul’s death comes at a time when Palestinian human rights organizations are intensifying warnings about the grave health and humanitarian conditions endured by prisoners in Israeli prisons, particularly in light of deliberate medical neglect, ongoing abuse, and the denial of prisoners’ most basic rights, conditions that have led to the martyrdom of a number of detainees in recent months.

Prisoner institutions called on the international community and human rights organizations to take urgent action to investigate the Israeli crimes against prisoners, hold those responsible accountable, and ensure international protection for Palestinian prisoners.
