Iran, Russia foreign ministers discuss regional conflicts, Palestine

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi held a phone conversation on Wednesday with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov, focusing on recent regional and international developments.

According to the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Araghchi highlighted the importance of peace and stability in South Asia, pointing to the recent clashes between Afghanistan and Pakistan.

He placed a premium on the need for dialogue and cooperation among regional countries and called for continued consultations between Tehran and Moscow, as well as with other neighboring states, to explore pathways toward lasting stability.

Turning to the Palestinian issue, Araghchi criticized moves by the United States and European countries at the UN Security Council to advance a draft resolution that would impose international trusteeship over Gaza and Palestine.

He argued that such proposals contradict the principles of independence and the right of nations to self-determination, insisting they cannot succeed.

Lavrov welcomed the exchange, reaffirming Russia’s readiness to continue bilateral consultations and regional dialogue.

He underscored collective cooperation among regional states to safeguard security.

The two ministers also discussed Iran’s cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) ahead of the upcoming Board of Governors meeting.

Both sides underlined the need for sustained coordination among Tehran, Moscow, and Beijing on nuclear matters.
