Hamas denies any agreement to surrender its weapons

Hamas has firmly rejected media reports claiming it has agreed to surrender its weapons under US President Donald Trump's Gaza ceasefire plan, calling them “baseless.”

In a statement on Sunday, the movement said that “circulating such misleading news aims to distort the facts and sow confusion in public opinion.”

“We call for adherence to professionalism and objectivity, and not to rely on anonymous sources or unreliable reports,” the statement said, adding that accurate statements are issued only through the movement’s official channels.

Earlier in the day, several media outlets quoted a Hamas official as saying that the group has agreed to hand over its weapons to a Palestinian-Egyptian body under international supervision.

Trump’s Gaza ceasefire plan demands the rapid release of captives held in Gaza, staged Israeli withdrawals from the territory, and the creation of a transitional administration.

On Friday, Hamas submitted its response to the 20-point proposal forwarded by Trump, with the group agreeing to hand over administration of the besieged territory to Palestinian technocrats and free all Israeli captives.

The Gaza-based resistance group’s response said it was willing to “immediately enter” peace negotiations through mediators.

Hamas team in Egypt

Hamas also said late Sunday that its delegation, headed by its top leader Khalil al-Hayya, has arrived in Egypt ahead of Monday negotiations on Trump’s Gaza plan.

Israel said its negotiators will leave on Monday for the talks in the Egyptian resort port city of Sharm el-Sheikh.

Also on Sunday, Trump said that discussions with Hamas and other countries this weekend have been “very positive.”

“These talks have been very successful, and proceeding rapidly,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.

“The technical teams will again meet Monday, in Egypt, to work through and clarify the final details. I am told that the first phase should be completed this week, and I am asking everyone to MOVE FAST.”

In all caps, he added, “Time is of the essence, or massive bloodshed will follow, something that nobody wants to see!”

Following Hamas’s response to his plan, Trump had demanded the Israeli regime to immediately stop bombing Gaza.

However, the regime has continued its savage bombardment of the territory.

According to the region’s Government Media Office, the Zionist regime’s military has martyred at least 94 Palestinians across the Gaza Strip over the past two days.

It said in a statement that from dawn on Saturday until the end of the day on Sunday, at least 131 Israeli air and artillery attacks targeted densely populated civilian areas and killed displaced Palestinians, including 61 in Gaza City.
