Iran’s FM wishes Jews a happy new year, blasts Netanyahu for ‘tarnishing image of Judaism’

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has extended felicitations to Iranian Jews and all true followers of the teachings of Prophet Moses (PBUH), while slamming Zionist regime’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for “tarnishing the image of all Jews and Judaism.”

In a post on his X account on Monday marking the Jewish New Year, Araghchi launched a critique of Netanyahu, stating that despite his “claims of victory,” he has brought “ruin and unprecedented isolation” to the regime.

Araghchi added that the “criminal Israeli regime has never been more reviled in our region and around the world.”

He slammed Netanyahu for “committing genocide of Palestinians” in the name of the Jews and, in doing so, “repugnantly... tarnishing the image of all Jews and Judaism.”

The Iranian top diplomat expressed admiration for the “rising number of Jews [who] are loudly speaking up against this abuse of their faith, demanding an end to the monopolization and tainting of Judaism by wanted war criminals.”

He urged the world to support the Jews in their effort to stop Netanyahu’s attempt to conflate “a divine religion with a sordid ideology of death built on racism and displacement.”

Araghchi condemns Israeli crimes, West’s silence

Leading Iran’s delegation at the 80th UN General Assembly in New York, Araghchi held several meetings and delivered speeches.

In his speech during the Ancient Civilizations Forum hosted by Greece in New York, the Iranian top diplomat emphasized that over the past two years, the world has witnessed the Israeli apartheid regime’s “horrific genocide and continuous aggression” against the Palestinian people in Gaza.

He warned that “the silence of some major actors is deafening and amounts to complicity and partnership in crime.”

During his meeting with Austrian Foreign Minister Beate Meinl-Reisinger, Araghchi noted the responsibility of all governments to condemn the US-Israeli aggression against Iran’s nuclear facilities.

He underscored that the three European countries and other UN Security Council members must refrain from abusing the Council to pressure Iran, fully aware of their responsibilities and the consequences of any illegal action.

The Austrian Foreign Minister emphasized the importance of diplomacy in resolving international issues and announced Austria’s readiness to provide any necessary assistance.

The Iranian foreign minister also held talks with the Sudanese Foreign Minister Mohi El-Din Salem, where the two sides emphasized the importance of greater unity and cooperation among Islamic countries to confront common threats and challenges, especially confronting the Israeli genocide in Gaza and the occupying regime’s war-mongering against Islamic countries.

In the meeting with Oman’s Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, Araghchi and his counterpart addressed the situation in Palestine and the need for global action to stop the Gaza genocide and to try and punish Israeli officials in international courts.

Araghchi highlights Iran’s goodwill on nuclear issue

In his meeting with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi, Araghchi highlighted Iran’s “goodwill and responsible approach” on the nuclear issue.

He stated that any further progress is contingent on other parties taking responsibility, ceasing their “excessive demands,” and stopping the abuse of the UN Security Council to pressure Iran.

Grossi also praised Iran’s positive approach in interacting with the IAEA, especially the Cairo Understanding, and emphasized the need for all relevant parties to use diplomatic capacities to prevent an escalation of tensions.

On September 9, the Iranian foreign minister and IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi reached an agreement on practical modalities to resume cooperation after a meeting in Cairo.

It came after the Iranian Parliament unanimously passed legislation requiring the administration to suspend all cooperation with the IAEA following the Israeli-US aggression, which targeted three of the country’s nuclear sites in a clear violation of international law and the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
