Yemen launches ballistic missiles at Tel Aviv, forcing airport closure

The Yemeni Armed Forces have launched missile strikes on Tel Aviv, shutting down Ben Gurion Airport and sending settlers running to shelters.

In a statement on Wednesday, the Yemeni military said it carried out a qualitative, dual military operation using two ballistic missiles, one of which was a ”Palestine-2” missile and the other was a “Zulfiqar” type.

The Yemeni Armed Forces said the strike was a retaliatory measure against the Zionist regime’s genocide and starvation campaign in Gaza, as well as “the initial response” to Israeli aggression against Yemen.

Zionist regime’s airstrikes on the Yemeni capital on Thursday claimed the lives of Prime Minister Ahmed Ghaleb Al-Rahawi of the National Government of Change and Construction, and eight other officials.

Despite the Zionist regime’s military’s claim of an interception, the missile strike prompted operational disruptions, including the shutdown of Ben Gurion Airport and the activation of sirens throughout the Tel Aviv region.

According to the statement, the missiles “targeted sensitive targets of the Israeli enemy in the occupied Yaffa area.”

“The operation successfully achieved its objectives, and caused millions of usurping Zionists to rush to shelters, suspending airport operations,” it added.

The statement further noted that Israel is “committing the most heinous crime against two million Muslims in Gaza, the land of jihad and martyrdom, amid the silence and inaction of two billion Muslims.”

Whoever adheres to Islam will not stand idly by in the face of this genocidal crime, it added.

The Yemeni Armed Forces affirmed that the “Israeli enemy will not enjoy security and stability, and that Yemen’s operations will continue at an escalating pace during the coming period.”

Since Zionist regime unleashed its genocidal war on Gaza in October 2023, Yemeni forces have carried out scores of attacks in solidarity with Palestinians, targeting airports, ports, and other sites across the occupied territories. Yemen has repeatedly vowed that such strikes will not stop as long as Zionist regime’s war and blockade against the besieged strip continue.

The regime’s bloody onslaught on Gaza has martyred more than 63,600 Palestinians and injured upwards of 160,900 others, mostly children and women.
