UNRWA: Severe worsening of child malnutrition in Gaza Strip

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) announced that new data from its clinics in the Gaza Strip reveals a threefold increase in malnutrition rates among children under five years old since March.

In a post on its official account on the X platform, the agency said it had examined around 100,000 children, and found that nearly one-third of children in Gaza City are suffering from malnutrition, a sixfold increase compared to the period before the ceasefire collapse.

UNRWA added that this crisis is “not a natural disaster, but a man-made famine,” stressing that the ongoing denial of humanitarian aid for nearly six months has only worsened the tragedy.

The agency said that its warehouses in Egypt and Jordan contain supplies sufficient for 6,000 trucks, including enough food to last three months, but Israeli restrictions are preventing this aid from reaching the Gaza Strip.

It warned that “the absence of political will to allow life-saving aid to enter will result in the continued deaths of more children in Gaza.”

Since October 7, 2023, Zionist regime’s forces, with direct support from the United States and other Western countries, have been waging a devastating war on Gaza, resulting in the killing and injury of nearly 219,000 Palestinians to date, according to the Ministry of Health in Gaza.
