UN: Severe hunger in Gaza as incoming aid falls short

UN Secretary-General’s spokesperson, Farhan Haq, said that the amount of aid entering the Gaza Strip is less than half of what is needed.

In a press briefing on Monday, Haq explained that “Everything entering Gaza is insufficient, and there is a severe state of hunger.”

He pointed out that the core issue lies in the fact that “Israel controls all border crossings and checkpoints.”

Haq explained that the inspection process is complicated and lengthy at the two crossings through which the UN has been permitted to deliver aid.

He continued, “What we need is to return to the UN-managed distribution network.”

He stressed, “We must resume distributing aid in Gaza through trucks entering via the land crossings.”

Since March 2, the Israeli occupation has closed Gaza’s crossings to food, relief aid, medical supplies, goods, and fuel, leading to a catastrophic decline in humanitarian conditions.

Backed by the US, the Zionist regime's army has been committing genocide in Gaza since October 7, 2023, resulting in over 209,000 people killed or wounded, most of them women and children, with more than 9,000 missing.
