Pro-Palestinian activists protest US Senate minority leader's stance on Israel

Pro-Palestinian activists in the US disrupted Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer’s book signing event on Thursday at the New York Public Library, protesting his stance on Israel.

During the event for Schumer’s book, Antisemitism in America, protesters repeatedly chanted “Free Palestine” and accused Israel of committing genocide in Gaza.

Some protesters criticized Schumer’s support for Israeli policies, shouting slogans such as, “There is a real Holocaust happening in Palestine,” while others called Schumer a “Zionist” and shouted, “You don’t speak for the Jewish people. You’re a liar.”

When library security removed protesters from the building, they continued their protest outside.

Israel has pursued a devastating offensive in Gaza since October 2023, killing over 54,200 Palestinians, most of them women and children. Aid agencies have warned about the risk of famine among the enclave's more than 2 million population.

Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.

Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war crimes against civilians in the enclave.
