Spanish PM advocates recognition of Palestinian state

The Spanish premier believes that recognizing a Palestinian state is in Europe's "geopolitical interests" and emphasized the importance of acknowledging the existence of the Palestinian state for international assistance.
Tehran, Qodsna - Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has been advocating for the European Union to recognize Palestine, a move that has faced opposition from the Zionist regime and its allies.
In a joint statement with leaders from Ireland, Malta, and Slovenia, he expressed readiness to recognize Palestine if it could contribute to resolving the ongoing conflict in Gaza, where Zionist attacks have resulted in a significant loss of life.
The Spanish Prime Minister is scheduled to meet with leaders from Norway and Portugal to discuss the issue further. During recent visits to Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar, Sanchez hinted at Spain's potential recognition of Palestine as a nation by the end of June, highlighting the need for the international community to support Palestine's full membership in the UN system.
Sanchez underscored the importance of a different approach in addressing the Palestinian issue, stating that Spain is prepared to support and recognize the State of Palestine. He emphasized the significance of this moment compared to past decades, signaling a shift in the approach towards resolving the long-standing conflict in the region.
Sanchez also expressed his concerns regarding the Zionist regime’s "disproportionate response" in the Gaza conflict, referring to it as a threat both regionally and globally.
