Israel's wide-scale unemployment crisis: 600,000 Job seekers, 50,000 Jobs

The main problem facing Israel’s labor market is that there are 600,000 job seekers but only 50,000 available jobs, a team of Israel’s top economic experts warned this week.
The main issue is the scarcity of available jobs for Israel’s 600,000 unemployed, the team notes. As of September, there were only 54,000 available jobs. This works out to 11 unemployed for every available position.

The number of Israeli households below the poverty line has grown by nearly 50% during the coronavirus pandemic, with 268,000 people falling into destitution, according to a report published by Israel's largest anti-poverty NGO.
According to the annual Alternative Poverty Report by Latet, the number of Israeli households living in poverty rose from 20.1% to 29.3% in 2020.
It said an estimated total of 850,000 households in Israel lack essential housing, education, healthcare and food.

Israel has seen unemployment surge to over 20% since the country first imposed a nationwide lockdown at the start of the outbreak in March. The regime’s vital tourism industry has shrunk to virtually nil and thousands of businesses have closed.
The report, which was based on the findings of a series of surveys and studies conducted by Latet from July to October 2020, also found that Israel’s middle class has shrunk by 15.5%, with 29% of the middle class’s financial scores decreasing.
