Ethiopia, strongest military power in SS Africa
Ethiopia is ranked as the strongest military power in Sub Saharan Africa, according to a study by Global Fire Power.
A latest military power ranking information by GlobalFirepower.com (GFP) last updated in 2016 has put Ethiopia’s military power ranking 42nd out of 126 nations it listed.
United States ranks number one in the list followed by Russia and China respectively.
According to the ranking Ethiopia’s military is powerful than many Persian Gulf countries, and European countries such as Belgium and Portugal.
GFP puts Ethiopia’s active military to 185,500 in the year 2016, the total land weapons to 4,068.
In terms of finance, Ethiopia has a Defense Budget of $340,000,000, Reserves of Foreign Exchange & Gold of $3,589,000,000 and Purchasing Power of $145,100,000,000.
Touching on the report, Egyptian daily al-Ahram notes that Ethiopia feeds its military power through a variety of sources, largely Israel.
The daily notes that Israel has not only fanned tensions in the Arab States but also used the Eritrean conflict and Somalia crisis to consolidate its relations with Ethiopia and have a large amount of weapons flowed into the country.
