Aid convoy enters Gaza from Rafah

Trucks carrying European medical aid for the blockaded Gaza Strip began crossing into the impoverished coastal strip from Egypt on Monday evening, a Hamas security official said.

   The convoy, consisting of some 20 trucks and 40 small buses, had been blocked since Sunday on the Egyptian side of the Rafah border between Egypt and Gaza, the official said.

    The Rafah border crossing has been largely closed since israel besieged the area in 2007.

    The terminal which is managed by Egypt is the only access point into the Palestinian territory that is not controlled by Israel.

    Last week nine European aid workers and medicts went on a hunger strike at the Rafah border crossing to protest against Egypt's
decision not to let them into Gaza, one of them told AFP.
