Heikal said recent riots in Tehran were part of an American plot to overthrow Islamic Republic of Iran.
Egyptian prominent journalist, Mohamed Hassanein Heikal said recent riots in Tehran were part of an American plot to overthrow Islamic Republic of Iran.
Emirate's Al-Khalij (Persian Gulf) daily quoted Heikal as saying that America misused street protest against results of the recent presidential elections in Iran to create crisis and riot in the country.
"In fact from the Junior Bush's tenure, Washington had developed the plan to create street crisis to destroy Tehran government," he said adding, "But the White House found the opportunity in Barack Obama's era."
"Remaining strong and firm, Islamic Republic of Iran enjoys internal integrity under the powerful leadership of (Ayatollah Sayyed) Ali Khamenei," he added.
"Iranian government could curb the crisis through limiting differences among its children, Mir Hussein Musavi and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad," he said.
Describing the Islamic Republic of Iran as an important factor in establishing strategic and security balance in the Middle East region, he urged Arab countries to take positive steps to strengthen their relations with Iran.
