Moroccan cities hold rallies in support of Palestine and against normalization

Participants also rejected recent steps aimed at expanding and deepening Morocco’s normalization track with Zionist regime.

The events were held at the call of the Moroccan Committee for Supporting the Nation’s Causes under the slogan “Friday for Al-Aqsa and against normalization.” They came amid continued Israeli incursions into Al-Aqsa Mosque and growing debate over raising Moroccan-Israeli relations to the ambassadorial level.

The rallies took place in several Moroccan cities, including Rabat, Tetouan, Marrakesh, Agadir, Oujda, Fez, Tangier, Casablanca, Kenitra, Salé, Nador and Taza. Participants raised slogans and banners affirming support for Palestine and Al-Aqsa Mosque, calling for an end to the war on Gaza and rejecting normalization with Israel.

The Moroccan Committee for Supporting the Nation’s Causes said Friday’s activities included more than 76 events in 45 Moroccan cities, reflecting popular support for the Palestinian cause and rejection of normalization.

Moroccan media quoted Hasnaa Qatni, a member of the committee’s central bureau, as saying that the turnout in dozens of cities sent a message that the Palestinian cause remains present in the conscience of Moroccans, and that defending Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa Mosque and rejecting normalization remain continuing popular positions.

Participants chanted slogans in support of the Palestinian people and resistance, including “Moroccan greetings to steadfast Palestine” and “Long live the resistance.” They also raised images of the Dome of the Rock and banners reading “Friday for Al-Aqsa and against normalization” and “Stop genocide and starvation, freedom for Palestine.”

The committee said its actions come in rejection of ongoing attacks on Al-Aqsa Mosque and violations of its sanctity, as well as opposition to recent normalization steps. It had earlier called for broad participation in what it described as a “Friday of anger” in support of Al-Aqsa Mosque and against normalization.

In the same context, the Moroccan Front for Supporting Palestine and Opposing Normalization called for rallies, marches and protest events in several Moroccan cities on September 25, 26 and 27, rejecting the deepening and expansion of official normalization with Israel.

The popular actions followed a decision to raise diplomatic relations with Israel to the ambassadorial level, a move that prompted rejection from Moroccan organizations supporting the Palestinian cause and opposing normalization.

According to Moroccan media reports citing the committee, participants called for halting the normalization track and reversing the ambassador-exchange step, while affirming continued support for Palestinians and rejection of what is happening in Gaza, Al-Quds and Al-Aqsa Mosque.

The rallies reflect the widening scope of popular solidarity actions with Palestine in Morocco, with participants’ messages focused on supporting Palestinians, defending Al-Aqsa Mosque and rejecting normalization amid the continuing war on Gaza and rising tensions in Al-Quds.
