‘Nobody’s buying it anymore’: Ghalibaf blasts US ‘fake news’ on energy prices
Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has scoffed at US “fake news” aimed at manipulating energy markets, saying such efforts have lost their impact.
“They’ve spammed so much fake news trying to push energy prices down that the market’s just numb now,” Ghalibaf wrote in a post on X on Friday night.
“Keep going, nobody’s buying it anymore. The real prices will show up anyway.”
He added, “Powerful? Maybe. But Smart? Not even close. Burned that fake news card way too early,” suggesting attempts to influence prices have backfired.
Iran has tightened its restrictions on shipping via the Strait of Hormuz, which is responsible for a fifth of the global oil demand.
The move came after the United States and Israel launched a war of aggression on Iran on February 28, causing global oil prices to reach nearly $120 per barrel, almost double compared to before the aggression.
