US, Israel root cause of instability in region: Pezeshkian

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has said that the United States and Zionist regime are the root cause of instability and insecurity in the region, stressing that Iran will not hesitate to confront aggressors.

Speaking in a telephone conversation with his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron late on Sunday, Pezeshkian expounded on the dimensions of the illegal aggression of the United States and Zionist regime against Iran, emphasizing that aggressors are still continuing their attacks against various targets in Iran including civilian centers which is a matter of regret.

Turning to the recent attacks against two Iranian islands (The Lesser Tunb and The Greater Tunb) and also Abu Musa Island, he reiterated that these attacks have been carried out against Iran using the soil of some Persian Gulf littoral states.

Allowing US to use their soil to attack Iran runs contrary to the fundamental principles of the international law and the UN Charter, Pezeshkian underlined.

Both the government and Armed Forces of the country are not seeking tension and conflict but “We do not hesitate to confront aggressors and defend our national sovereignty and territorial integrity,” he maintained.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Pezeshkian pointed his finger to the United States and Zionist regime, noting that US and Israel are the root causes of the instability and insecurity in the region.

Lashing out at the destructive approach of some European countries in supporting the crimes committed both by US and Israeli regime against Iran, the Iranian president called on them to abide by the international law and the UN Charter.

French President Emmanuel Macron, for his part, emphasized the necessity of ending war between Iran and US-Israel, expressing his major concern towards the intensification of situation in the region and the current status at the Strait of Hormuz as well as conflict between Zionist regime and Hezbollah.

The two presidents also exchanged their views on the consular issues including prisoners’ swap.
