Over 1,000 educational staff martyred in Gaza since October 2023

The Palestinian Ministries of Education and Higher Education have reported a devastating toll in Gaza between October 2023 and October 2025, confirming that 1,037 educational staff were martyred due to Zionist regime’s attacks, with another 4,757 wounded, according to Qatar’s Al Jazeera TV network.

Furthermore, the Zionist regime’s crimes resulted in the martyr of over 20,000 students and injuries to more than 31,000. The ministries contends that the systematic destruction of Gaza’s educational infrastructure constitutes genocide under international law.

Despite widespread destruction, universities, including the Islamic and Gaza Universities, have pivoted to remote learning. However, the Palestine Schools Institute reported that Zionist regime’s forces intentionally destroyed infrastructure and are impeding reconstruction efforts. High-profile targeted killings include Dr. Sufyan Tayeh, the president of the Islamic University of Gaza.

UNESCO estimates that 658,000 school-aged children have been deprived of education over the past two years. This educational catastrophe occurred amidst the wider conflict initiated on October 7, 2023, which has resulted in massive civilian casualties, famine, and a failure by the Zionist regime to meet its stated war objectives before a subsequent truce and prisoner swap agreement was reached in mid-October 2025.
