Iran blasts Zionists' attacks on Lebanon as ‘clear violation’ of UN Charter, int'l law

Tehran has denounced the Zionist regime’s recurrent acts of aggression against Lebanon, regardless of a 2024 ceasefire deal, as a blatant violation of the UN Charter and international principles.

The Zionist regime’s repeated violations of the ceasefire agreement, and its military aggression against the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Lebanon constitute a clear violation of the United Nations Charter and international law,” Esmaeil Baghaei said in a brief statement on Sunday.

He also criticized the inaction of the United States and France as the guarantors of the ceasefire deal, calling for serious and concerted action from the international community to curb the occupying regime’s lawlessness and warmongering against Lebanon and other countries in the West Asia region.

The remarks came as one person was killed and seven others injured early on Saturday morning in a series of Israeli airstrikes against southern Lebanon.

Lebanon’s official Lebanese National News Agency (NNA) reported that 10 Israeli airstrikes at dawn targeted six heavy equipment yards in an area between Msayleh and an-Najjariyah districts, burning a building and many machines.

The strikes also completely cut off the Msayleh road due to severe damage and led to the death of a civilian and injuries to others who were passing by,” it said.

The Public Health Emergency Operations Center at the Lebanese Health Ministry said in a statement that the airstrikes resulted in the death of a Syrian national and injuries to one Syrian and six Lebanese, including two women.

In light of the substantial losses experienced over nearly 14 months of warfare and the inability to fulfill its objectives in the aggression against Lebanon, Israel had no choice but to accept a ceasefire with Hezbollah, which came into effect on November 27, 2024.

Ever since the agreement was enacted, the occupying forces have conducted numerous assaults on Lebanon, including airstrikes throughout the country, in blatant disregard of the ceasefire.

On January 27, Lebanon announced its decision to extend the ceasefire with Zionist regime until February 18.

Even though the deadline has passed, Israel remains in control of five important regions in southern Lebanon, which include Labbouneh, Mount Blat, Owayda Hill, Aaziyyeh, and Hammamis Hill, all located close to the border.

Lebanon has denounced the ongoing presence of Israeli military personnel, perceiving it as a breach of the ceasefire agreement and the predetermined schedule for withdrawal.
