He then added that his wall is “99.9 percent effective” and "every bit as good" as the one built by Israel on Palestinian lands.<\/p>\r\n\r\n
<\/p>\r\n\r\n
Trump warned House Minority leader Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority leader, threatening to shut down the government if his demands for border wall money are not met.<\/p>\r\n\r\n
<\/p>\r\n\r\n
“I am proud to shut down the government for border security,” Trump said.<\/p>\r\n\r\n
<\/p>\r\n\r\n
After being accused of wanting a “Trump shutdown” by Pelosi, the president appeared angered as Vice President Mike Pence was seated silently at the explosive meeting.<\/p>\r\n\r\n
<\/p>\r\n\r\n
“I think the American people recognize that we must keep government open, that a shutdown is not worth anything and that we should not have a Trump shutdown,” Pelosi said in her opening remarks.<\/p>\r\n\r\n
<\/p>\r\n\r\n
Schumer also disagreed with a shutdown at the meeting, after which he accused Trump of throwing a "temper tantrum" to secure funding.<\/p>\r\n\r\n
<\/p>\r\n\r\n
“The bottom line is simple. The president made it clear he wants a shutdown," The New York Democrat told reporters outside the West Wing.<\/p>\r\n\r\n

After returning to the Capitol from the tempestuous meeting, Pelosi also mocked Trump, comparing his efforts for border-wall funding to a “manhood thing.”<\/p>\r\n\r\n
<\/p>\r\n\r\n
"It’s like a manhood thing for him. As if manhood could ever be associated with him. This wall thing,” the California Democrat told members of the Democratic Steering and Policy Committee in a closed-door meeting.<\/p>\r\n\r\n
<\/p>\r\n\r\n
“But the fact is we did get him to say, to fully own that the shutdown was his… That was an accomplishment."<\/p>\r\n\r\n
<\/p>\r\n\r\n
The Republican president has vowed to crack down on immigration, in part by building a wall on the border with Mexico, but has failed to get his complete agenda through so far.<\/p>\r\n\r\n
