UNRWA: 15,000 pregnant women in Gaza on verge of famine
Over 550,000 women in the Gaza Strip are reported to be facing acute hunger and more than 15,000 pregnant women are estimated to be on the verge of famine, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) said on Thursday.
In an X post, UNRWA reported that there are around 50,000 pregnant women in Gaza, with 4,000 deliveries expected in the next month alone.
It also pointed out that heavy rains and limited aid worsen conditions for Gaza’s displaced people.
According to the UN agency, 2024 has become the deadliest year on record for humanitarian personnel with 281 personnel martyred globally, most of them being UNRWA staff in Gaza.
