Qalibaf: I am the voice of the oppressed but strong Lebanese people
Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf says he is echoing the voice of the oppressed but strong people of Lebanon in these hard times.
Addressing the 149th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly in Geneva, Switzerland, on Monday, Qalibaf said the Lebanese people expect cowardly sorties by US-made warplanes at any moment but they do not hesitate to defeat the “biggest enemy of humanity.”
Pointing to Israel’s assassination of Secretary General of the Lebanese Resistance movement Hezbollah Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, he said the regime thought it had succeeded in defeating the Resistance.
“However, a series of setbacks on the ground and long operations showed the regime that Hezbollah is alive and being supported by the Lebanese people.”
Israel is killing and injuring civilians in violation of all international regulations before the eyes of the world, Qalibaf said.
“They (Lebanese) are waiting for our practical measures to help the displaced and [establish] a sustainable ceasefire that will contain anti-human brutalities of the criminal Israeli regime.”
Qalibaf said Iran supports any ceasefire agreed by the Lebanese government, parliament and Resistance front.
Nasrallah was assassinated on September 27 during intense Israeli airstrikes on the southern suburbs of the Lebanese capital, Beirut. US-provided weapons and munitions were employed in the assassination.
It came as part of the regime’s escalation against Hezbollah. The Lebanese Public Health Ministry said on Monday the death toll from Israeli attacks has passed 2,300 since October 8, 2023.
Elsewhere in his speech, Qalibaf said the IPU Assembly is focusing on the use of science, technology and innovation to build a more peaceful and sustainable future.
However, he added, the criminal Israeli regime is currently using science and technology in war, mass killing of civilians and state terrorism.
