UN organizations: 625,000 students in Gaza are deprived of education
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) announced that all of its schools in the Gaza Strip have been closed due to the Israeli war, indicating that 300,000 children have been deprived of education for the same reason.
On the occasion of World Education Day, UNRWA, the United Nations Educational and Scientific Organization (UNESCO), and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) confirmed in a joint statement on Wednesday, that more than 625,000 students have been deprived of education since the start of the war on Gaza.
The organizations asserted that the war has caused 22,000 teachers to lose their jobs in the education sector, stressing that 75% of schools have been damaged.
The UN organizations called for putting an end to the war so that Palestinian students as well as teachers can safely resume education.
The Ministry of Education in Gaza announced that as of last Saturday morning, 4,327 male and female students were martyred, and 7,819 others were injured. Among the staff, 231 teachers and administrators were martyred, and 756 others were variously injured.
