PPS: Palestinian prisoners in Negev prison plan hunger strike

The Palestinian Prisoners Society (PPS) said on Monday that 120 prisoners in Negev desert prison decided to start a hunger strike as a protest step against their continued isolation.

"The protest step constitutes a response to the repressive measures practiced against Palestinian prisoners in sections 26, 27, and 8 in Negev prison,” the PPS stressed, pointing out that the Israeli prison service isolated the prisoners and deprived them of their basic human needs.

Earlier on Saturday, the Israeli repression units stormed several sections in Megiddo, Ofer, and Negev desert prisons, attacking Palestinian prisoners and placing a group of them in solitary confinement.

In a related development, spokesman for the Ministry of Prisoners' Affairs Montaser al-Naouq condemned Israel’s Minister of Internal Security Itamar Ben Gvir for renewing visiting bans against Hamas prisoners.

Ben Gvir had threatened to impose strict measures on Palestinian prisoners such as depriving the prisoners of having a representative among them in addition to preventing them from cooking their meals.
