UNRWA employees start open-ended strike in W. Bank

Head of the UNRWA staff union Jamal Abdullah said that the strike would be comprehensive and open-ended across the West Bank, while UNRWA teachers from Gaza would participate in the strike for only two hours in solidarity with the West Bank employees.

Abdullah added that the strike in the West Bank would continue until an agreement was reached with the UNRWA administration.

Abdullah stressed that the strikers in the West Bank demand a pay raise after a survey showed that they need a salary increase, adding that the staff union entered negotiations with the UNRWA administration on this issue.

He also said that the UNRWA administration recently suspended him and punished members of the union with salary deductions instead of meeting the financial needs of its employees.
