Daesh would have reached heart of Europe if not for IRGC, says Iranian MP

The Daesh terrorist group would have reached the heart of Europe by now if it was not for the sacrifices made by Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), says an Iranian lawmaker.

Speaking in an interview with ISNA published on Monday, Gholamreza Shariati rebuked the European Parliament’s approval of a resolution calling on the EU to designate the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terror group.

He said the IRGC is “the guardian” of Iran’s national security, arguing that the resolution comes as part of the EU’s policy to “harm the Iranian nation.”

The European Parliament on Wednesday adopted an amendment calling on the EU and its member states to include the IRGC on their terror list. It also passed another resolution on Thursday, calling for more sanctions against Iranian individuals and entities and putting the IRGC on the EU terrorist list over alleged human rights violations during the recent riots.

Shariati said if it was not for the IRGC, the Daesh terrorist group “would have been in central Europe today.” The Guards risked their lives to secure the world, he remarked.

He highlighted the Iranian nation’s unwavering support for the IRGC, saying the EU plan to blacklist the IRGC would not undermine the elite force.

Elsewhere in his remarks, the lawmaker noted that the European Parliament’s move was influenced by some anti-Iran terrorist groups. He warned that such actions will eventually harm the European countries.

“I believe the European Parliament has become a puppet of terrorist groups such as the Mujahedin-e-Khalq Organization (MKO), and it has been deluded by them,” he said.

The MKO has been a major force behind the recent riots that erupted across Iran last September. The cultish group has also been responsible for numerous assassinations and bombings of top-ranking Iranian officials since the 1979 Islamic Revolution. Out of the nearly 17,000 Iranians killed in terrorist attacks over the past four decades, about 12,000 have fallen victim to the group’s acts of terror.

The terrorist group also fought alongside Iraqi forces in the former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein’s war on Iran in the 1980s.

However, the US and the European Union removed the MKO from their lists of terrorist organizations in order to use them as proxies against Iran.

Iranian officials have condemned the “shameless hypocrisy” of the US and its European allies in supporting a terrorist cult that has Iranian blood on its hands.
