Hamas condemns Israeli punitive measures against Palestinians
Hamas Movement strongly denounced the "punitive measures" imposed by the Israeli occupation against the Palestinian people and the Palestinian Authority by robbing allocations for martyrs’ families and detainees and preventing Palestinians from building on their own lands.
In a statement issued Friday, Hamas considered such measures as a crime and an encroachment on the Palestinian people’s basic rights in a bid to influence the UN resolution to prosecute the settler-colonial occupation before the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
We call on the Palestinian Authority not to give in to such threats and work towards prosecuting the Israeli occupation leaders for their violations against the Palestinian people’s rights, land, and holy places, the statement reads.
Earlier Thursday, Israel imposed a series of sanctions on the Palestinian Authority in response to last week’s decision by the United Nations to seek an advisory opinion from the International Court of Justice regarding the legality of Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territories.
The measures include freezing Palestinian construction in Israeli-controlled areas of the West Bank; withholding tax money; penalizing Palestinian officials; and taking steps against non-government groups Israel claims are involved in hostile acts.
