Poverty rates reach 93% in Palestinian refugee camps

Poverty rates increased to 93 percent in the Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon and Syria, according to Ahmad Abu Houli, member of executive committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization.
In a press statement by the PLO's refugees' department on Monday, Abu Houli stressed that the rates of poverty have become concerning, calling on the donating countries to act urgently and provide financial support for UNRWA to continue offering its services to the Palestinian refugees.
The statement pointed out that Abu Houli’s remarks were voiced during a meeting with the Head of Netherlands Representative Office for Palestine, Michelle Rentner, in Gaza.
Abu Houli hailed the firm support of Netherlands for donating 14.5 million USD to the UNRWA during its financial deficit.
For his part, Rentner voiced his country’s support for Palestinian refugees, pointing out that Netherlands is working towards signing a new multi-years funding agreement with the UNRWA in 2023.
