Lebanon’s Amal sternly warns Israel in surprise video amid border dispute

Lebanon’s Amal Movement, a close ally of the Hezbollah resistance movement, shows off the group’s defense capabilities, issuing a stern warning to Israel, amid tensions with the regime over the demarcation of the Arab country’s southern maritime border with the Tel Aviv-occupied territories.

Footage, released by the media bureau of Amal’s Operations Command on Tuesday, showed satellite-captured coordinates of the Israeli settlements and the movement’s forces preparing launch pads for rockets facing specific targets.

The 30-second video was the first of its kind released by the Amal Movement, which is headed by Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri.

It was released in the midst of heightened tensions between Lebanon and the occupying regime about maritime disputes and border demarcations.

The maritime row between Lebanon and Israel is over an area in the Mediterranean Sea spanning about 860 square kilometers. Block No. 9 is rich in oil and gas. Israel relies heavily on gas and has long been developing a number of occupied offshore gas deposits in the Mediterranean Sea.

The two sides have held several rounds of indirect talks to delineate their maritime borders and resolve the decades-long dispute, but to no avail.

The Tel Aviv regime claims the field in question falls within its so-called “exclusive economic zone,” a claim roundly rejected by Beirut.

Last month, Lebanon’s resistance movement Hezbollah released a video showing Israeli vessels operating in a disputed area in the Mediterranean Sea, warning that all the occupying regime’s platforms and targets are “within the reach” of its missiles.

Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, the secretary-general of Lebanon’s Hezbollah resistance movement, has said Israel will not be allowed to conduct drilling operations for oil and natural gas in the disputed area in the Mediterranean Sea until the Arab country gets what it deserves.

The resistance’s attitude and behavior toward the Israeli regime in the case depend on the results of ongoing indirect negotiations between Beirut and Tel Aviv over the disputed maritime area, according to Nasrallah.

Hezbollah has also warned that it stands “ready” to take action if the Lebanese government confirms that Israel is violating the maritime rights of the country.
