Activists blockade Israeli arms HQ over killing of Shereen Abu Aqleh

Two activists blockaded an Israeli arms firm’s London HQ today to protest against the killing of Palestinian journalist Shireen Abu Akleh.

Members of Palestine Action locked themselves to the entrance of 77 Kingsway in Holborn, where Elbit Systems UK has its main office.

Activists, who also sprayed the building in red paint, said the action prevented staff entering and leaving. One activist was arrested in the morning, the group said.

The action comes after Israeli forces were accused of fatally shooting Abu Akleh, a veteran Al Jazeera reporter, while she was covering a raid of Jenin refugee camp. Her funeral was also attacked by Israeli forces.

Palestine Action accuses Elbit of fuelling Israel’s brutal occupation by supplying arms and surveillance technology to its military, and the British government of aiding the occupation.

Elbit Systems UK has 10 sites in Britain, including three arms factories, which have been repeatedly targeted by the direct action group.

“If we fail to act now, how much more blood will be spilled in our name?” a spokesperson from the group said.

“The British government kick-started the occupation and to date, continues to aid it.”
