UK university reinstates suspended Palestinian academic after backlash

A UK-based Palestinian academic at Sheffield Hallam University has been reinstated in her teaching post, one week after she was suspended following a smear campaign by supporters of Israel.

Palestinian lecturer. Shahd Abusalama is allowed to teach again at Sheffield Hallam University after a week's suspension due to an anonymous 'anti-Semitism' complaint filed against her.

Shahd Abusalama was suspended from teaching by Sheffield Hallam University over an anti-Israel social media post.

"I met with Sheffield Hallam HR today, accompanied by my @UCU representatives. The university admitted that there had been issues with the way my case has been dealt with and has reinstated my teaching with immediate effect," Abusalama wrote on Twitter.

Abusalama confirmed that she had still not seen the allegations made against her, nor has it been revealed who made them. Despite her position at the university being reinstated, an investigation against her continues.

The university authorities did not specify the group or individual who filed the complaint that led to her suspension, but Abusalama, who is from Gaza, has been vocal about the campaign led by pro-Israel groups to have her expelled.

"Family, friends, and followers, I am under renewed attack by Zionist publications protesting my recent appointment as an Associate Lecturer at Sheffield Hallam University, where I also recently submitted a PhD dissertation on the historical representation of Palestinian refugees in colonial, humanitarian and Palestinian documentary films, from 1917 and 1993," Abusalama tweeted shedding light on the campaign against her.
