Gaza (Qodsna) - The main goal of the Zionist regime in 22-day war was to prevent the launch of resistance missiles on Zionist settlements and to destroy the infrastructure of Hamas and Islamic Jihad, Senior member of Islamic Jihad movement told Qodsna. 

On December 27, 2008, the Israeli occupiers launched a war against the Gaza Strip called "Operation Cast Lead," while the Palestinian Resistance called its defensive operation "Battle of Al-Furqan." The conflict lasted 22 days and was finally temporarily halted for 6 months (in June) with the mediation of Egypt.

On this occasion, the Islamic Consultative Assembly of Iran has named January 19 in the Iranian calendar as Gaza Day (Gaza, the symbol of resistance), the day when the Palestinian resistance achieved a significant victory against the Israeli occupiers.

Since the victory of the Islamic Revolution in Iran, in its first step against global tyranny, it changed the embassy of the Zionist regime to the embassy of Palestine.

Mohammad Shalah, one of the senior members of the Islamic Jihad movement, talked about the 2008 war against Gaza in an interview with Qods News Agency reporter, saying that "the 22-day war in Gaza was in fact the second heavy defeat of the Zionist regime after the 33-day war against Lebanon."

“The main goal of the Zionist regime in this war was to prevent the launch of resistance missiles on Zionist settlements and to destroy the infrastructure of Hamas and Islamic Jihad, which failed to achieve these goals,” he added.

“These achievments by the Palestinian resistance groups increased their support from other sides of the resistance axis, especially the Islamic Republic of Iran, and with their support, the Palestinian resistance groups became a major trump card in the regional equations for the resistance axis,” the Palestinian official said.
