Israel releases the body of a Palestinian after withholding it for 18 months

Israeli occupation authorities handed over the bidy of Mohammad Damer Matar to his family for proper burial about a year and a half after he was shot dead by the Israeli occupation forces.

Matar’s body was released by the Israeli occupation military and handed over to her family via the Palestinian Red Crescent (PRC) at Ni'lin military checkpoint, to the west of Ramallah in the occupied West Bank, WAFA reported.

Matar, who comes from the village of Deir Abu Mesh'al in the West Bank, was shot dead by the Israeli occupation army near his hometown together with another two Palestinians in August 2020. His body has been withheld by the occupation army ever since.

Over the last four years, the Israeli occupation authorities have escalated the practice of withholding the bodies of Palestinians killed by Israeli occupation forces, claiming that funerals of Palestinians had provided grounds for “incitement” against Israel.

Zionist regime has long been condemned by human rights advocates for its policy of withholding the bodies of Palestinians killed by its forces during alleged attacks on Israelis.

Dozens of Palestinians killed by Israeli forces are still withheld in Israeli mortuaries despite calls by human rights groups on Israel to release them.
