Covert aspects of attack
on Lebanese Minister

Qodsna Editorial Board

The Saudi-led coalition in Yemen has failed, and this coalition will inevitably end the aggression in Yemen. This scenario seems to be largely due to the failures of Saudi Arabia and its allied coalition in the war in Yemen, and they are trying to reduce the costs of this defeat by creating this crisis.

Tensions have increased between Saudi Arabia and Lebanon due to the critical statements by Lebanese Information Minister George Kurdahi.

George Kurdahi worked as a journalist and media analyst for many years before being elected Minister of Information in Lebanon and is a well-known figure in this field.

While he was not still a senior official in the Lebanese government, he criticized the illegitimate Arab-Zionist-Western coalition in a TV program about the Yemeni war, which brought misery for the Yemeni people and led to widespread massacres and devastation.

"The brutal aggression against Yemen, which has been going on for eight years, must stop," he said in a television interview in response to a question about developments in Yemen. "What the Yemenis are doing is their legal right to defend themselves, and I respect the resilience of the Yemeni people in the face of this aggression."

Following his appointment as Lebanese Minister of Information, the program was re-launched according to a specific scenario, prompting protests from the Saudi government and some Arab governments.

The Governments of Kuwait, the UAE, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia protested against these positions and, while calling their ambassador from Beirut, explicitly demanded his removal from the ministry.

The Saudi government has also stopped all imports from Lebanon, and it seems that we should expect similar action from some other Arab regimes.

Former Lebanese Prime Minister Saad al-Hariri also attacked Hezbollah on this pretext, making a series of false and baseless allegations, blaming the resistance for the tensions between Lebanon and Saudi Arabia.

Lebanon's Hezbollah issued a statement praising the "brave and honorable position of the Minister of Information in defense of the oppressed people of Yemen."

"We categorically reject any request to remove Qardahi or force him to resign," according to Hezbollah's statement. The movement stressed that such demands are a clear violation of Lebanon's dignity and sovereignty.

In the meantime, Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati expressed regret over Saudi Arabia's actions towards his country and said that he was in contact with Saudi Arabia to ease the crisis.

There are many speculations about the hidden goals of the Arab regimes and their allies in this scenario:

Lebanon exited from a political stalemate after more than a year, and its cabinet was eventually formed with Prime Minister Najib Mikati. This is a success for the resistance movement, the Lebanese National Movement, the Lebanese Amal Movement, Hezbollah and other allied movements. This was while the internal mercenary currents were trying to continue the political stalemate, and eventually forced Michel Aoun to resign and complicate the situation in Lebanon.

With the formation of the Lebanese government, pursuing cases such as organized corruption in Lebanon and the Beirut blast case, in which figures such as Saad al-Hariri and Samir Geagea are accused, could change the situation to the detriment of these defendants. They are trying to influence the Lebanese government's priorities to some extent by creating this diplomatic crisis.

The issue of Lebanese fuel has weakened the credibility and position of the mercenaries of the Arab regimes, so by creating this crisis, they are trying to direct the public opinion in their own favor.

Efforts for holding the Lebanese elections have already begun. By creating this diplomatic crisis and severing political and economic ties, they are trying to aggravate the economic situation in Lebanon, which has become critical after the US sanctions and the explosion in Beirut.
