Iran, Russia, resistance movements condemn Damascus blast targeting military personnel

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzade strongly condemned “the terrorist act” and expressed solidarity with Syria’s government and nation as well as the bereaved families.

“The blind and cowardly terrorist actions are doomed to failure and will certainly not undermine the determination of the Syrian government and nation" to battle terrorism, free the occupied territories and restore the stability of the country.

Two bombs which had been earlier attached to an army bus went off in Damascus on Tuesday morning, leaving at least 14 people dead and several others injured.

The attack is the deadliest in the capital since a bombing claimed by Daesh targeted the Justice Palace in March 2017, killing at least 30 people.

Commenting on the attack, the Russian Foreign Ministry said, "We decisively condemn this brazen terror raid,” and offered condolences to the families of the victims and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.

Moscow also described the blast, which came as talks on drafting a constitution for Syria have resumed in Geneva, as a provocative action aimed at thwarting efforts to find a political solution to the crisis in Syria.

Lebanon's resistance movement Hezbollah also denounced the blast in a statement carried by the group’s al-Manar TV, and blamed the attack on “terrorists and their regional and international” supporters.

The movement stressed that "all terrorist attempts will fail to destabilize Syria"  and will instead “increase the determination and resolve of the Syrian army and people to complete the liberation operation, and pursue the terrorists and purge the country of them”.

The group also offered condolences to “the Syrian leadership and the Syrian Arab Army and the families of martyrs.”

Yemen’s Ansarullah movement also decried the “criminal” explosion.

Responding to the attack, the political bureau of Ansarullah said in a statement that the blast comes as the victories achieved by the Syrian army against the foreign-backed Takfiri militants are “disturbing Syria’s enemies.”

The statement added that the enemies’ attempts are to no avail “thanks to the Syrian people’ awareness and their support for their leadership, and their state and government in the face of all challenges.”

Syria has been gripped by foreign-backed terrorism since March 2011. The Syrian government says the Israeli regime and its Western and regional allies have been aiding the Takfiri terrorist groups that were wreaking havoc in the Arab country.

The government forces have already managed to undo the terrorist gains across the country and bring back almost all of Syrian soil under government control.
