Argentine judge exonerates ex-president charged with covering up Iran attack

An Argentine judge on Thursday dismissed the case against former President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner for allegedly covering up Iran’s possible role in the 1994 bombing of a Jewish community center that killed 85 people.

The judge ruled Thursday that the charges against Fernandez and other administrative officials “do not constitute a crime,” according to local media reports.

The trial concerned an attempt by the Fernandez government to sign a memorandum with Iran to find out who was responsible for the car bomb attack.

The judge dismissed the case because there was no evidence that the memorandum was covered up or that benefits were exchanged.

Fernandez was President of Argentina between 2007 and 2015 and is now Vice President. The judge’s decision can be appealed.
