Zionists pursue destruction
of Al-Aqsa Mosque as main goal

Safiullah Ramezankhani

Tehran (Qodsna) - In an exclusive interview with Quds News Agency (Qudsna), Safiullah Ramezankhani, Deputy Secretary of the Palestinian Committee of the Presidential Institution, answered questions regarding the anniversary of the burning Al-Aqsa Mosque by Zionists and the current developments in the Palestinian issue. You can read the text of this conversation here:

Qodsna: What is the reason for naming 30 August as World Mosque Day?

Ramezankhani: August 21st of each year is named World Mosque Day. In 1969, on such a day, Al-Aqsa Mosque, which is the first qibla of the world's Muslims, was set on fire by the Zionists. Years later, on this occasion, at the suggestion of the Islamic Republic of Iran and with the approval of the members of the Organization of the Islamic Conference this day was named the International Day of the Mosque.

August 21, 1969, two years after the occupation of East Jerusalem and the Al-Aqsa Mosque by the Zionists, an Australian Jew named "Dennis Michael Rohan" entered the city of Jerusalem as a tourist and entered the Al-Aqsa Mosque through the entrance of Gawanmeh Gate. After entering Al-Aqsa Mosque, Rohan set the mosque on fire with a flammable substance. The Zionist regime, meanwhile, cut off water to the Al-Aqsa Mosque and dispatched fire engines from Al-Quds so late that they arrived after the fire was extinguished. Palestinian fire engines reached the mosque from Hebron (Al-Khalil). Meanwhile, the Palestinians put out the fire with their clothes and basic equipment. The slowness of fighting the fire and using flammable material to create the fire caused the fire to spread rapidly.

During the fire, the eastern part of the mosque caught fire. As a result of this, a historical pulpit known as the stage of Noureddine Al-Zanaki was completely burnt and the dome of "Jame Al-Qabli", which is an ancient monument made of pure silver, was severely damaged.

The Zionist regime arrested Rohan but declared that he was insane and sent him back to Australia.

Qodsna: What is the purpose of the Zionist regime in spreading threats against Al-Aqsa Mosque?

Ramezankhani: A Zionist-Christian movement has formed in the United States that believes that the destruction of Al-Aqsa Mosque and the construction of the Third Temple of Solomon in its place is a condition for the appearance of Jesus (pbuh) and without the construction of the Third Temple, Christ will never appear.

This movement, especially the extremist Zionist groups affiliated with it, believe that the ruins of the First and Second Temples of Solomon are under Al-Aqsa Mosque, and that there is no other way to rebuild this temple than to destroy Al-Aqsa Mosque.

According to this belief, the followers of this Zionist movement invest large sums in Zionist extremist organizations such as “Ateret Cohanim” whose goal is to Judaize Jerusalem and destroy the Al-Aqsa Mosque.

Prominent figures in various interviews with the Zionist regime's mass media say that no president in the United States dares to help Israel or he will be overthrown.

Qodsna: What is the duty of the Islamic world in protecting Al-Aqsa Mosque? Can inaction on this issue lead to divine punishment?

Ramezankhani: World Mosque Day is in fact a reminder of a great task for the Islamic world, and that is that the Islamic and holy land of Palestine is occupied by the Zionist infidels and the Muslim nation must strive to liberate this holy piece of Islam.

The ruling regimes of many countries, whose rule has been achieved through violent domination and has not been popularly favored, and therefore consider their continued existence in repressive treatment of the nation with the support of the colonial powers, have abandoned this Islamic task. And they follow the process of betraying the Palestinian cause. The recent action of the UAE regime in establishing full relations with Israel is evaluated in the same framework. But this duty is never forgotten by the Muslim Ummah, and as long as Palestine is occupied, resistance to liberate it is an all-encompassing duty of the Islamic Ummah.
