Possible role of Saudis in recent
coup in Jordan visible

Hossein Ruivaran

Speaking to Quds News Agency, an Iranian Middle East political expert, Hossein Ruivaran talked about the failed coup in Jordan, saying that it is likely that Saudi Arabia had a role in Jordan’s recent developments.

“Military or security organizations often are behind a coup, but we have not heard yet anything about this from Jordan’s officials,” Ruivaran said.

“It means that no military commander or chief has been arrested yet which shows some contradictions with normal coups around the world,” he added.

Referring to recent reports about the possible role of Saudi Arabia, the Zionist regime or the UAE, Ruivaran noted that “Bassem Awadallah, who has been under arrest after the coup, was the former Minister of Finance in Jordan. He was also an economic advisor to Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad Bin Salman in the past. Since he is recognized as the mastermind of recent upheavals in Jordan, so it is logical to imagine the role of Saudis or the UAE in the failed coup.”

He then talked about the security importance of Jordan to the Zionist regime, stressing that “Jordan always supports Israeli interests in the region, and the approach has been continuing since 1948 and the creating of the Zionist regime.”

“Western countries don’t let any political change in Jordan, as the Arab state acts as a barricade for the Zionist regime,” the Iranian expert added.

Ruivaran also asserted that the United States as well as Israel, Saudi Arabia and the UAE consider Jordan as the ultimate solution for the Palestine crisis.

“Two third of the Jordanian population are Palestinians. If the so-called Deal of Century is implemented and the occupied West Bank annexes to the Zionist regime, Palestinians in the region are going to be under more pressure and they are forced to emigrate because of displacement, and their first option is to emigrate to Jordan. This would pose a security threat to Jordan’s sovereignty, and at the same, it diminishes pressures on Israel,” he said.

“That is a reason why King Abdullah is oppose to the implementation of the so-called Deal of Century,” Ruivaran said.
